How to Share the Good News.

Welcome to day 5 of Blogmass titled The Essence of Christmas. Let’s go into today’s topic – how to share the good news. We are studying the Gospel according to Dr. Luke and deriving lessons thereof.

Christmas connotes love, isn’t it? What better to show love than to share the love and what better love than sharing the birth, death, resurrection, and ascension of our lord Jesus Christ during this precious season? But how do we go about it?

Firstly, we have to surrender every that we think is ours like Peter and his brother did with their boat (5:1-3, 11, 27-28)

Then we have to listen to Him for in doing so will there be a catch of souls for Him (5 vs 4 – 7).

After then, we have to acknowledge that we ourselves was saved by grace and grace alone so that we will no boast (5:8-9)

When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, because I’m a sinful man, Lord! ”
    Luke 5:8 HCSB

Furthermore, we should call others to come and see the savior like Peter and Andrew invited James and John Zebedee to come and the long awaited promised Messiah (5:6, 7, 10)

In addition to that, we should know that Jesus’ encouragement to us in commissioning us for the work of spreading the Gospel in verse 10b

… “Don’t be afraid,” Jesus told Simon. “From now on you will be catching people! ”
    Luke 5:10 HCSB

While going on sharing the good news, we should be compassionate because Jesus had compassion on the unclean man. We may meet a chronic sinner on the road, we must not judge but be compassionate towards his/her that God’s desire is he/she comes to the saving knowledge of Christ. Why? Because doing so will proclaim our Lord the more (5 vs 12-16).

Apart from compassionate heart, we should not forget to offer the sinning world the forgiveness of sin and healing from all affliction in Jesus’ name.

Seeing their faith He said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven you.”
    Luke 5:20 HCSB

Tell the guilt lady that her sin has been forgiven.

Tell the guy who thinks he has sinned before grace, that forgiving grace is more than enough for him because the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…” Luke 5:24 HCSB

Where should we go to do this? We should go to from house to house, hideouts, street to street, ceremonies, invites, workplaces, taverns, pub, etc., not to partake in sin or to add more laws to the burden of sin but to offer the newness of life called Grace that Christ offered because ‘…new wine should be put into fresh wineskins.’
    Luke 5:38 HCSB

Thank you for staying around. See you tomorrow.

  • How to Preserve the Good News.

How to Preserve the Good News.

Welcome to day 4 of our annual Blogmas. This year is themed The Essence of Christmas and we are studying from the book written by Dr. Luke about the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.

Similarly, I want to call the 3rd chapter, The Preservation of Good News.

John the Baptist was in the wilderness, fulfilling his purpose

…God’s word came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah: A voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way for the Lord; make His paths straight! Every valley will be filled, and every mountain and hill will be made low; the crooked will become straight, the rough ways smooth, and everyone will see the salvation of God.
    Luke 3:2‭, ‬4‭-‬6 HCSB

    Fun fact 1:
Matthew 1:1ff traces the genealogy of Jesus Christ paternally while Luke 3:23ff traces it maternally.

Now, everybody is coming to him – the religious leaders, the ordinary men, and women, the imperial soldiers, etc but you know what? John tells them the whole truth about God the Father.

He then said to the crowds who came out to be baptized by him, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance. And don’t start saying to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones! Even now the ax is ready to strike the root of the trees! Therefore, every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”
    Luke 3:7‭-‬9 HCSB

What is the truth about Christmas that must be preserved?

The truth is, we must not remove Christ from Christmas. John didn’t remove Jesus from his message to appeal to those coming to him.

We can preserve this Good News by staying with the bible on what is Christmas all about – the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ not the celebration of orgies, immoralities, and worldliness. Sola scriptura.

We can also preserve this Good News by spreading it. Therefore, spread the gospel.

And the last lesson on how to preserve the Good News is by going to all nations, making disciples of them, and baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit because Jesus was baptized at the very start of his public ministry.

When all the people were baptized, Jesus also was baptized..
    Luke 3:21 HCSB

May God gives us understanding in Jesus’ name.

    Fun fact 2:
Biologically through Mary, Jesus was from the Nathan branch of the David line but legally, through Joseph, he is from the Solomon branch.

  • How to receive Good News from God

How to receive Good News from God

Welcome to the second day of our annual Blogmas. The theme of this year is the Essence of Christmas.

Thank you for journeying with me through the book of the Gospel according to Dr. Luke.

I will call chapter 1, the chapter of Good News because 3 different people received the good news that changed their stories.

The first recipient of this news is Governor Theophilus. He has the privilege of receiving a step-by-step account of the greatest man ever born by a woman – Jesus Christ

It also seemed good to me, since I have carefully investigated everything from the very first, to write to you in an orderly sequence, most honorable Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things about which you have been instructed.
    Luke 1:3‭-‬4 (HCSB)

The challenge before you and I is how do you we treat the message of salvation, hope, and love sent to us by Yahweh during this period?

Do we keep it jealously like Theophilus because had he been he has treated it nonchalantly, we might not have had this beautiful account?

Furthermore, the family of Zechariah and Elizabeth received the second good news of the birth of a special son after years of none.

They have given up on birthing but God said no

But the angel said to him: Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will name him John.
    Luke 1:13 (HCSB)

My dear, the Almighty has not forgotten you.

Also, this yuletide is a clear indicator that God has not forgotten humanity in that while we are yet sinners, Christ dies for us.

The third recipient is Mary, the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ.

She received the best news ever – the news that her age-stricken cousin Elizabeth has taken in and that she will give birth to the Saviour of the world.

Now listen: You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will call His name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.
    Luke 1:31‭-‬33 (HCSB)

Dear, you may not give birth to another Jesus but I am prophesying that your life will birth new things in Jesus’ name.

Moreover, what qualities do all the 3 entities have? One thing; they are all lovers of Yahweh.

Theophilus means God’s lover and it was said of Zechariah and Elizabeth that they were ‘both righteous in God’s sight, living without blame according to all the commands and requirements of the Lord.’ and Mary was a humble virgin (Remember God resists the proud)

    Do you love God?

If you want to receive good news from God, love God.

    See you tomorrow.

  • How to handle marital proposal (pt 3) – How Men See the Value of Women They love

    Dear sister,

If you are sure who the brother is, before his arrival, please no law stops you from giving your Yes on the spot or within some hours.

He will think I am cheap? No! Whether you give your answer immediately or you delay for 3 years doesn’t increase or decrease your value in his eyes.

Because a man gets his value about women based on

    – the value you placed on yourself. How you called yourself is not people will called you.

    – his value of women from his environment.

Meaning, If you place a value upon yourself by not performing wifely duties in courtship like cohabitation, sex, etc

he will place a value on you and if he won’t value you, then goodbye to bad riddance.

    Value attracts value.

Furthermore, the types of women he has met will determine how he values you.

If his mother, sisters, neighborhood women, ex-girlfriend, and female colleagues have been covtefeve (remember Trump, right 😄😄), don’t expect him to have value for you. Remember, you have no business with such an individual.

  • How to marriage proposal (pt 2)

Lemme tell you two of stories to buttress that fact not all sisters we beholden are wicked. Some are god-fearing and wise.

The first story goes thus; there was this lady I met during my national service year in far away Jigawa. A spec and I believe she will be a compliment.

I asked her out and she said her answer on the spot which is no.

I asked her, ‘are you not going to pray about it.’

She said she is not going to pray any prayer because she can never be interested.

No time is wasted on both side. We are friends throughout our service year till date.

The second story, I am very confident about this one, after my delivery, she asked for 3 months to pray and maybe developed feelings.

Surprisingly, on the 90th day, without cajoling or being disrespectful, she gave her answer too.

She has given her verdict, I am the one that will determine whether I still want to stay around or check the next door. Funnily enough, I checked the next door.

No hard feelings on both side. Till today, we are cool. I even chatted her up today.

Summarily, what I’m insinuating is that as much as possible, dear sister, give an answer to the marriage proposal on time and give it in a clear manner.

  • How to handle Marriage proposal.

What my eyes beholden in the hand of some wickedness sisters, I can’t tell it all.

I asked you out. You neither said no nor yes but you want me to help you paint your room, pack your load, run market errands, and do and submit an assignment for you and you will still be vexed if I don’t call you per day.

Your boyfriend is flexing while me, still applying to the office will be suffering. God forbids

Dupe (not real name) Shey if I want to be an errand boy, I can’t say ni.

You and your kind are very wicked and the Almighty will open the eye of the brother you are playing with their hearts in Jesus’ name.

Summarily, go and give the required answer to all the proposals on your table, then sin no more and God will be with you.

  • How to prepare Amala and Gbegiri.

How to prepare Amala and Gbegiri.

I hope you enjoyed the jollof rice prepared yesterday.

That being said, I welcome you to day 14 of 2022 Blogmas titled The Love of Christ.

Today let’s prepare Nigerian delicious Amala and Gbegiri or preferably Amala and Abula ( Abula is Gbegiri plus ewedu).

Amala and Gbegiri are conventional Yoruba food eaten mostly in the Ibadan, Oyo, and Ogbomosho axis of Southwest Nigeria but due to their delicious and nutritional value, this food is now nationally and internationally accepted as the one that brings joy and satisfaction.

Before I went to describe how to prepare this delicious food, lemme confess that this food is my all-time favorite. Two, we have two varieties of Amala; laafun type ( made from cassava) and isu type (made from yam). I will be describing the preparation of the former.

    Ingredients

    1. Yam flour (yam type)

    2. Bean (for making Gbegiri)

    3. Ewedu

    4. Stew.

    5. Potash

    6. Salt

    7. Seasoning cubes

    8. Locust bean

    Preparations.

    (A) Amala

    (i) put desirable water on and let it boil.

(ii) while the water is still boiling, start adding yam flour and stir gently.

(iii) after that, reduce the heat while still stirring until you achieve a uniform texture.

A well-cooked Amala will give you a sticky brownish colour.

    (B) Gbegiri.

    (i) deshell your bean.

(ii). After deshelling, put the deshelled bean into the pot, and add water and a little potash. Then let it cook until the bean is soft.

    Stir occasionally

(Note, do not cover to avoid overflowing)

(iii) when the bean is a soft, sieve. The sieved part that’s liquid is the Gbegiri.

You can discard the remnant from sieving.

(iv) put the liquid on the fire, then add palm oil, salt, and your seasoning cubes to taste.

A well-cooked Gbegiri will give you a yellowish colour.

If you are eating at this stage, enjoy your Amala and Gbegiri plus your stew of assorted meats but for maximum enjoyment, let’s make it Abula (literally, Abula in Yoruba means mixture).

    (C) Ewedu

    (i) detach jute mallow leaves from its stem.

(ii) after detaching, wash the leaves free from stone and sand.

(iii) put appropriate water plus the locust beans on the fire for 5 minutes.

(iv) put the washed leaves in the pot, thereafter add potash. Let it cook for 15 minutes.

A well-cooked ewedu will give you a greenish colour

    Don’t cover.

    (v) when it is soft, blend for 1 minute gently.

(vi) after blending, return to the fire, then add seasoning cubes and crayfish and let it cook for 5 minutes.

    Now, you have your Ewedu.

Amala plus Gbegiri plus ewedu gives you the best enjoyment in the world.

    Enjoy.

  • Types of God’s will.

    Types of God’s will.

I started this series with the definition of God’s will and what it means to do it. Click here to read it.

Now, today’s series is about types of God’s will and how we can key into it for both our spiritual and physical edification. Shall we proceed?

    1. Sovereign Will of God.

This is God’s plan that is predestined or decreed in His eternal wisdom. This consists of what the Almighty has decided in His mind to do by His omnipotent power. No creature, whether man or angel can disobey, delay, or thwart this plan. Consciously or unconsciously, we are all playing a part in this plan.

For example, everything about Jesus Christ and the salvation of mankind was decreed before the creation of the earth and everyone – Mary, Joseph, Apostles, Judas, Romans, Herod, Pontus Pilate, etc involved in the play was playing his/her part.

What if Judas refused to betray Jesus? Seriously, if it’s not him, one of the 12 will. Why? It has been written.

Other examples are God’s choice and selection of the nation of Israel (Romans 11:1-2) and most of what was written in the books of Daniel and Revelations fall in this category.

To shock you, the ongoing Russian-Ukraine war, America’s moral decline, the COVID-19 pandemic, breathtaking scientific breakthroughs, etc., are all fulfilling a part in the sovereign will of God concerning the end time.

We can also put the natural laws like gravity, Earth’s rotation, and revolution, and the galaxies into this category for they all work according to the dictate of Almighty God.

Lastly about this,  sometimes, God reveals some parts of his sovereign will to us. However, frequently, it remains a secret. God reveals to us only what he wants us to know.

    2. Commanded Will of God.

This is also known as the moral will of God. This includes His laws and commandments like the ten commandments (Exodus 20) and many such divine guidelines where Yahweh told us how He wants us to act or not to act.

You can choose to obey or disobey this but there are consequences for any of the actions. (Deuteronomy 28, Isaiah 1:19-20).

    3. The preferential  will of God.

This is knowing the mind of God on something that is not explicitly stated as a sin. That is wanting to discern what ultimately pleases Him and of His utmost delight.

It means being on God’s perfect side or choosing Yahweh’s stand and as His children, our desire should be to do that which pleases God

For instance, God doesn’t want sinners to perish. It is His utmost delight that all come to repentance. Therefore, doing God’s will towards the sinner will be not to cancel such an individual as someone beyond the grace of God.

God loves the poor and wants them taken care of. Doing God’s will towards the poor will be taking care of them.

This is also called God’s will of disposition. For more on this, read the following verses; Romans 12:1; Colossians 1:10; 2 Corinthians 5:9; Ephesians 5:10, Matthew 18:14; 1 Timothy 2:3-4; 2 Peter 3:9; Ezekiel 18:32; 33:11.

    4. The directive will of God.

This refers to the Holy Spirit’s personal and direct guidance in our lives through a dream, vision, prophecy, pastoral utterances, word of wisdom, or other means.

God may want you to do a particular job, married a specific person or not, go somewhere or not, etc and it does not violate any of the “wills” above or Scripture (in fact its validity must be subjected to scripture to prove whether it is the will of God or not).

For example, if you have a dream where you married a second wife as a married man, that is not God’s will because it negates His plan for marriage as explicitly stated in the Holy Bible. The “Macedonian call” (Acts 16:6-10), the guidance of Philip (Acts 8:26), and of Peter and Ananias (Acts 10:1-23) are examples.

    5. The discerned will of God.

This is the type of will, we get by application of two or more Bible passages, especially on issues not specifically touched in the Bible.

The decision of who to marry, what city to live, what career to pursue, how many children to have, which school to attend, what kind of car to get, what kind of food, shoes, and clothes, and how much money to give to charity and more are not written in the Bible. We use Biblical principles to discern God’s will on it.

The first example is there is nowhere in the Bible where the name of your spouse is written down as in Mr. A of No 2, Oregon street TX USA must marry Miss. B from No 26, African way, Nigeria but if we applied various biblical instructions about Christian marriages and spouse selection, we can deduce whether they can marry themselves.

    5. Expected will of God.

These are sets of laws of what God expects us as Christians to do for our benefit and safety.

God expects us to pray, fast, pay our tithes and offerings, be faithful to one spouse, be diligent and be hardworking plus many other good things

Conclusively let’s pray; Teach me to do your will, for you are my God” ( Psalm 143:10 ).
