This article target men, married and would-be about the most bastardized word in marriage, submission.
You must have had countless definitions of submission, good and bad ones but among those definitions, submission is not any of these from the biblical worldview.
SUBMISSION IS NOT GENERAL.
The only person that is commanded to submit to you is your wife and your wife only. Even your kids are so commanded to submit to you but obey you.
My wife can’t submit to you.
Your brother’s wife is not expected to submit to you.
Your mentee’s partner is off-limits.
The only woman in the world enjoined to submit is your wife. All other women owe you respect, as you also own them in reciprocal.
And don’t force, cajole, ask, or campaign for it. If you do, it became coercion, slavery, and manipulation.
SUBMISSION IS NOT SUPERIORITY.
Bible abundantly made it clear that husband and wife are neither superior nor inferior to themselves. God called them one, co-heirs and remnants of life.
Therefore, husbands and future ones, the scripture commanding submission to you doesn’t say you are better than her. You are not.
The purpose of submission in the family is to institute leadership and orderliness.
President Muhammad Buhari is the president of Nigeria but that doesn’t make him a superman and a citizen, less human.
God called them one, co-heirs and remnants of life.
SUBMISSION IS NOT LORDSHIP AND ‘SAVOURSHIP.’
Wives are to submit to their husbands as unto the Lord Jesus Christ and marriage is a mirror of the relationship between Christ and the Church.
Who is Christ to the church? Jesus is head, Lord, and Saviour of the Church because it’s he who dies for the Church but fortunately since husbands don’t die for their wives, they are not Lord and Saviour.
You are not Lord and Saviour of your wife. Jesus is provided she is born again.
You didn’t die for her sin. Jesus was the one who did that.
Since you are not her Lord and Saviour, if she thinks that you are doing something that her Lord and Saviour hate hoping that she will join you, she’s bound not to submit to you in that situation or circumstance.
Do you know why? Her Lord and Saviour forbid her from following the crowd to do evil and it’s only her that will stand to give account not you.
Lastly, dear husband loves your wife as Christ loves the Church.
